Charolette Tate

Services for Charolette Ann Tate were held at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Aug. 6 with Bro. Jimmy Colvett officiating. Miss Tate died in Dallas, Texas, on Aug. 4, 1981. She was 25 years old. Miss Tate was born in Hayti on Oct. 23, 1955. She was the daughter of Mrs. Claudett Cecil and Mr. James Tate. She attended school in Caruthersville and was graduated from CHS in 1974. Miss Tate was employed as a secretary in Dallas. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cecil of Caruthersville; her father, James Tate of Frankfort, Ky., a brother, Guy Tate of Caruthersville; two step-brothers, Mike Cecil of Dyersburg and Danny Cecil of Hayti; a sister, Mrs. Shonna Lackey of Bloomfield; a stepsister, Mrs. Donna Mayberry of Hayti; her grandmothers, Mrs. Mildred Goodale of Caruthersville and Mrs. Nell Kuntz of Vermillion, Ohio; and a step-grandmother, Marie Bell of Lafe, Ark. Pallbearers were Tom, Jim, and Tony Curtis, Don, Robert and Charles Moore.

Charolette was a dear friend to me for years. When I moved to town during my 4th grade year, she was the first person I met. I will always remember her and her fun loving spirit.

Charolette was my best friend all through school. We met in 1st grade and were friends from then on. We were almost inseparable during HS and when we weren't together we were on the phone. We tried to keep each other out of trouble but I don't think either one of us managed that well. She will always be in my heart.

I remember all the fun times that I always had with Charolette. Every day at lunch we would all pile into Frankie's mustang and go to Charolette's house for lunch. Her mom never cared that we piled into her home. Ever time I could leave home I would head to her home. Do you all remember when we stayed out all night. I was suppose to be at Kathy's. Boy was Daddy mad.

Yes Kitty I remember. At least one time you were supposed to be at my house and we ended up at Gwen's house all night. I just got fussed at by Gwen's mom Sue last year when I went to her house while visiting with Gwen. kathy

Linda Maxwell Pujol/Wilson

Charolette and I were friends since the 1st grade. We had alot of great times in school and especially out. Numerous bunking parties, working together at Clark's Drive In and getting chased off the slab yard by Sue for Charolette being with Herman (we all know about this). I was 7 months pregant with my son when I heard about Charolette, I still do not believe it happened the way I heard it happened. I will always miss her and I think about her from time to time and sometimes I put flowers on her grave, purple ones, her favorite color.

Charolette was a good friend..she was the "leader of the pack". :) I spent a lot of my time at her house. Her family was always welcoming people in their home.

I remember the time that Charolette and I were trying out for cheerleading, going through the routines, practicing every day. We both weren't very coordinated and we would laugh at each other. Neither one of us got up enough courage to try out on the day of try outs, but we had so much fun trying.

Charolette will always be remembered.

Charolette was a sweet, cute, and funny girl who left us way too soon. I visit the cemetary quite often to go by my son's grave and pass by her's every time...and I still just can't believe it after all of these years. It was so sad. I want her family to know that she isn't forgotten. Back in the spring several of us went to her grave after a reunion planning meeting (me, Kathy, Debbie, and Donna)and shared memories of her while we were there. Vicky Alston Fairey

It so amazes me the impact that Charolette had on so many lives. What a testimony to her short life. She was one of a kind and I am glad that in my childhood I got to call her friend.
